Run Rudolph, Run!

Saturday, December 5th was the 5th Annual Sienna Family Fun Run in our neighborhood, supporting one of the elementary schools. Kevin and his brother Keith were all set to run this 5K. This year it was moved from the usual April to December and renamed the Reindeer Run. Fittingly, as shown in the previous blog post, it snowed the day before. Also Friday night we had a "hard" freeze with temperatures in the mid 20's. Kevin was determined to run, because he wanted to beat his previous best time. Luckily, they decided to postpone the race start time two hours. By 10:00 am on Saturday it was a balmy high 30 something with beautiful sunny skies. Kevin and Keith were ready to run. The announcer cautioned them about ice on the golf course bridges while they were waiting at the starting line. I encouraged Kevin to do his best to carefully complete the race. He was all about beating his best time, despite the unfavorable conditions.

Here is Kevin crossing the finish line at 23:51!! A personal best by 70 seconds! Way to go Rudolph! (Not sure if you can see the clock, but my photography skills were much better this time. I actually got Kevin in photo and snapped it at the exact second of his official time. Much better compared to the previous 5K on November 1st - see previous blog posting.)

His time record on his watch. However, his official time was 23:51. Regardless he got below 24 minutes which was one of his goals. Keith came in at 24:49, but I wasn't quite ready to snap his picture. He also got a personal best. Way to go!!
